How to Check a Dentist’s Qualifications in Vietnam

To check a dentist’s qualifications in Vietnam, verify three things: the identity of the person treating you, their practising credentials, and their education and relevant training. Clinic biographies and certificate photographs are starting points, not independent confirmation. Match the details with information from the issuing authority or institution, and distinguish permission to practise from evidence of education, course completion or participation.

Identify the Dentist Who Will Actually Treat You

Request the treating dentist’s full Vietnamese name, practising credential number, issuing body and the procedures they will perform. The dentist featured on a website may be a director or adviser rather than the person assigned to your appointment. If different dentists will perform different procedures, identify each person whose credentials need checking.

Keep the original Vietnamese spelling, including accents, alongside any English name. Abbreviations and nicknames can make records harder to match. Compare the named dentist with your appointment confirmation and treatment proposal so you know whose documents you are reviewing.

Check the Dentist’s Practising Credentials

Start with the issuing body printed on the credential. Find its official website, or that of the relevant provincial or municipal health department, and look for practitioner information or a contact channel for credential enquiries. Use independently located official contact details rather than relying solely on a link supplied by the clinic.

For practising credentials, compare the document with the authority’s response or record, including current status and scope relevant to the proposed work. A matching name alone is insufficient.

Vietnamese documents may be called chứng chỉ hành nghề or giấy phép hành nghề. Current administrative procedures address newer licences and transitional arrangements involving older certificates. The title alone does not establish validity; confirm the specific credential’s status and scope. Do not assume every dentist appears in one nationwide public search system. If no result appears, use the clarification steps below.

Distinguish Degrees from Training Certificates

A dental degree documents academic education. Formal further professional training may support a specific qualification, depending on the programme and recognition. A short course, manufacturer training session or conference participation certificate demonstrates something narrower. These documents cannot automatically replace practising credentials or establish specialist status.

For claims such as “international expert”, “overseas trained” or “brand-certified”, ask what exact qualification or course supports the description. Establish who awarded it and whether it records a degree, assessed professional training, course completion or attendance. Ask which recognised qualification supports any specialist title.

Use the institution’s official verification channel where one is available. Some institutions require the dentist’s consent or a formal request; not all provide public online searches. If the institution cannot disclose information directly, ask what authorised confirmation process it offers. Keep the distinction between a documented qualification and an unverified promotional description clear.

Ask About Experience Relevant to Your Treatment

Years in practice do not fully describe experience with a particular procedure. Ask whether the dentist has performed comparable implant or crown treatment, what they personally did and whether they can describe relevant follow-up. A clinic’s overall case numbers do not necessarily show one dentist’s experience.

Case photographs shared with patient permission may help illustrate that experience, but cannot replace practising credentials or guarantee your result. Look for a clear account of the dentist’s role and the timing of follow-up, rather than assuming immediate photographs demonstrate long-term results.

What If the Details Cannot Be Verified?

For a name mismatch, incomplete number or unclear issuer, request a legible document and a written explanation from the clinic. Recheck the original spelling and full number, then ask the issuing authority or institution which confirmation route applies. An unsuccessful search alone does not prove that a credential is invalid.

If material details remain unresolved, pause your decision rather than treating verbal reassurance as verification. If your assigned dentist changes, check the replacement’s credentials against their proposed responsibilities.

Once credentials are clarified, the separate guide to choosing a dental clinic in Vietnam covers the wider comparison of plans, safety, costs and support.

Verification should identify your actual treating dentist, establish their practising and educational credentials, and clarify what relevant training demonstrates about the work they will undertake.
