Hidden costs in dental tourism can include scans, preparatory treatment, temporary teeth, medicines, extended accommodation, return trips and follow-up care. These are not necessarily concealed charges: some may simply be missing from a preliminary proposal. Before booking dental treatment in Vietnam, establish what is included, what costs extra and what cannot be confirmed until examination. The advertised treatment price alone is not a complete trip budget.
Ask whether consultation, clinical examination, X-rays and any necessary CBCT scan are included. “Free consultation” may describe an online discussion rather than every diagnostic service. Clarify whether assessment fees remain payable if you decide not to proceed.
Extractions, gum treatment or bone grafting may also sit outside the initial estimate. VNDentalTravel’s implant cost breakdown and price list lists additional procedures separately; check which, if any, relate to your proposed treatment.
The treating dentist should distinguish established needs from decisions awaiting examination. Ask the clinic for charging units, available estimates and the findings that could trigger additional work. An unpriced item should remain marked as unresolved, not treated as free.
An implant treatment fee may not cover every stage through to the final restoration. Check these items before committing:
Potential extra | What to clarify |
Temporary teeth | Fabrication, adjustments and any necessary remake |
Final crown or bridge | Included in the total or payable at a later stage |
Anaesthesia or sedation | Selected method and any separate clinician or facility fees |
Prescription medicines | Supplied within the fee or purchased separately |
Review imaging | Included checks and circumstances attracting another charge |
The clinical team determines suitable anaesthesia or sedation from the treatment and your health assessment. Price alone should not determine that choice. If temporary restoration arrangements change, request an explanation of the alternative and an updated cost before it is provided.
Allow for airport and clinic transport, meals, companion expenses and any payment or currency-conversion fees. “Transfers included” does not automatically mean every journey is covered.
When reviewing VNDentalTravel’s dental treatment service packages, check the selected option’s accommodation nights, room arrangements, transfer coverage and companion provisions. If airfare support is offered, identify the allowance, eligibility conditions and payment or reimbursement process.
Extended accommodation is easy to overlook. Before reserving flights and hotels, check amendment charges, fare differences and cancellation terms. List the expected treatment days separately from the hotel nights actually included. Ask who would arrange and pay for extra nights if appointments change.
Budget separately for each planned visit. Even when the final restoration is included in the clinical fee, a second flight, hotel stay, transfers and time away from work may not be.
When arranging dental treatment travel in Vietnam, ask the coordinating team to separate each trip’s expected expenses around the dentist’s proposed treatment stages. Do not assume first-visit travel benefits extend to later visits.
Distinguish planned return treatment from an unexpected extension for review, adjustment or a change in treatment progress. Ask accommodation and transport providers about extension costs, and the clinic whether additional appointments attract fees. This gives you a practical basis for estimating the effect of a longer stay.
Before booking, clarify responsibility for routine reviews, local dental assessments, imaging, restoration adjustments and repairs. A warranty covering a product or restoration does not automatically cover local treatment, examinations or flights back to Vietnam.
Ask who assesses a concern, where treatment would take place, whether prior approval is needed and which expenses remain yours. For any reimbursement arrangement, confirm the invoices and clinical records required, and retain the written terms.
Organise the budget into confirmed expenses, items awaiting assessment and a contingency for changes. Base that contingency on unresolved treatment and travel conditions rather than a universal percentage. It cannot replace written clarification of missing charges. Before booking, you should know what is already counted, what may change and who will explain and confirm any additional cost.
